FAQs
Here are some frequently asked questions.
How do you make a terpene profile?
The traditional methods of terpene (essential oils) extraction are steam distilling and hydro-distillation. Steam distilling involves suspending a basket of herb above a vessel of boiling water. The steam passes through the perforated basket and penetrates the plant material. Only lighter oils such as monoterpenes are soluble in the steam. As the terpene-entrained steam passes out of the top of the distiller it comes in contact with a cooled condenser which liquefies the water and oils. The lighter oils float on the surface of the water and are easily collected. There is usually a water-soluble fraction of oil that stays dissolved and gives the water a milky look. This is called hydrosol and is generally the type of herbal extract used in shampoos and cosmetics when an herb is listed on the ingredients. Hydro-distillation is similar to steam distilling except that the herb is placed directly in the boiling water.
Today, most companies use CO2 extraction with a refining step to get their terpenes because it leaves no solvent residues in the finished extract. The method is customizable so different temperatures and pressures are used to get different results. Extraction also allows for the possibility of fractionating, where extracts of different molecular weights will drop out at different times. The fragrances or terpenes collected from extraction are rich, full and more authentic.
Do you make your own products?
All our products are made by Kush Vape, from beginning to end.
How much is in a pod?
Every Kush and King Kush pod is pre-filled with 1 mL and 950mg of CBD. How many draws you get depends on your draw size; a 1 mL pod typically lasts well beyond a disposable pen.
What is the difference between Kush and King Kush?
Kush pods are broad spectrum: hemp extract (CBD, CBC, CBG) with cannabis terpenes and zero THC. King Kush pods are full spectrum legal hemp with less than 0.2% THC. Both use the same 1 mL pod and the same USB 3.0 fast-charging battery.
Is CBD a legal product?
Yes, hemp-based CBD is legal. Purchasing CBD is legal as long as it doesn't contain more than 0.2 percent Delta-9 THC, but some local laws have put restrictions on buyers.
How do I check the lab results for my pod?
Every pouch carries a batch number. Enter it on the COA page to open the certificate of analysis for that batch.
What are cannabinoids / terpenes and where do they come from?
Cannabis is made up of hundreds of active chemical compounds, over 60 of which are cannabinoids. Phytocannabinoids are naturally-occurring ingredients that are found in the female flowers (buds) of the cannabis plant. These chemical compounds play an important role. They interact directly with the cannabinoid receptors found throughout the human endocannabinoid system. The medicinal benefits of cannabis are reactions of the cannabinoids activating the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the human brain and body.
Terpenes are the compounds responsible for a plant's scent and profile. There are 20,000 different terpenes in existence and the cannabis plant has more than 100 of these terpenes. Many terpenes that are produced by the cannabis plant are also found elsewhere in nature. People use terpenes to add scent to a number of products in the world, not just cannabis related products. Unlike other plant species, each strain of cannabis has a unique terpene profile. Terpenes and cannabinoids work together to develop a strain's particular flavor and resulting effect, a phenomenon known as the entourage effect.
Cannabinoids and terpenes both develop in the resin glands, or trichomes, on the flower (bud) and leaves of cannabis plants. Today, growers aspire to breed strains with high concentrations of both compounds, seeing the value in the entourage effect in each strain. Selecting strains based upon the terpenes' effects can help you to achieve the overall result you desire.
Does the battery work with every pod?
Yes. One USB 3.0 fast-charging battery runs every pod in both lines. Buy it in a Starter Pack or on its own, then choose your strains.
